Speak to Council about Changes to the DTES Plan and Concerns about Potential Displacements!

This coming Tuesday (December 16th), City Council will continue hearing from speakers on the proposed changes for the DTES plan that will change the housing mix in the DTES Oppenheimer District. While uplifting the DTES is a good goal, these specific changes would likely lead to the displacement of our most vulnerable populations by not providing enough deeply affordable housing units.

It would be one thing if there were other options for people impacted, but ABC turned down new supportive housing at 7th and Arbutus, banned net new supportive housing city-wide and recently rejected a plan to make it easier to build social housing across the City.

We need more social housing AND deeply affordable housing in the DTES as well as across the City to ensure that existing residents are not pushed out and potentially left on the street.

Register to speak at Council or write to Council if you want to make your voice heard.
